H King Oehmig

The Rev. H. King Oehmig, D. Min., is a retired Episcopal priest and founder and editor of Synthesis Publications, a worldwide lectionary-based ministry serving members of the Anglican Communion.

Dr. Oehmig says, "In 1987, after ten years as a parish priest, I sensed that God wanted me to change directions—to write from the position of my responsibility as a priest—to assist clergy in the often lonely yet exhilarating task of preaching every week. A survey by the College of Preachers in 1987 provided the hard data necessary to convince me that our publication was needed in the Episcopal Church. In effect, the survey said that clergy loved to preach, but felt overwhelmed by the process of getting there. Sunday was not a day of rest for them and the rest of the week was even worse. They needed help."

As a result, Dr. Oehmig, ably assisted by Howard Rhys, Don and Sue Armentrout, Susan McLeod, Paula Franck, and Isabel Anders, began to write and publish Synthesis, and it took off. The outreach has extended around the world and has spawned several other publications, including Understanding the Sunday Scriptures, A Companion to The Revised Common Lectionary, Year A. Years B and C are coming soon!

Dr. Oehmig is also author of Between the Lines: Reflections on the Gospels Through the Church Year and Beyond the Words: Insights on the Gospels Through the Church Year. If you'd like to contact Dr. Oehmig, you may e-mail him at king@kingoehmig.com
